Guided tours of the Main Building

The University of Vienna offers a variety of interesting guided tours of different sites.

Apart from the Main Building, the University Library and the University Observatory, we offer guided tours of the University Campus, the Wolf Science Centre, the Haidlhof Research Station as well as tours of scientific collections.

Public guided tours of the Main Building
The guided tours are designed to introduce tourists and interested people in general to the historic building on the Ringstraße. The one-hour tour of the Main Building provides an overview of the history of the University of Vienna. Starting in the Aula, the tour includes the Arcade Court, the main reading room of the University Library and the Main Ceremonial Chamber (if available) with the copies of the original ceiling paintings by Gustav Klimt.

Guided tours take place every Thursday and Saturday.
Meeting point for the guided tours is the Aula in the Main Building, 1010 Wien, Universitätsring 1.

Thursday:
6.00 p.m. - German

Saturday:
10.30 a.m. - German
11:30 a.m. - English
Reservations are not required. The tour takes about 60 minutes.

The price of the guided tour is Euro 5,00 per person.
(Concessions are available to students, pupils, people doing compulsory military or community service, senior citizens and staff of the University of Vienna)
Tickets are available at the porter’s lodge.

Group guided tours of the Main Building
You are welcome to book private group guided tours of the Main Building of the University of Vienna.

Guided tours of the Campus of the University

The premises of the Old General Hospital have served as the Campus of the University of Vienna since 1998. A guided walk through the courts allows you to experience the rich history of the buildings, from their uses as a poorhouse, military hospital, birth house and university clinics to the modern centre for research and teaching.

Duration: about 90 min.
